Reduce your Carbon Footprint this Fall
During the dog days of summer it can sometimes feel like the heat and humidity are never going to come to an end. But believe it or not, fall is once again right around the corner. Sure it’s not TECHNICALLY fall until closer to the end of September, but you have to admit, once August ends it kind of just begins to FEEL like fall. Any time of the year is a great time to engage yourself in eco-friendly activities. Here are a few ways to help reduce your very own carbon foot print this fall!
- Check all of your home’s windows – are they properly caulked? If not, make sure you give them a touch up before the cold weather really arrives. If re-caulking them isn’t an option, covering the whole window in plastic is actually a pretty good alternative.
- Every year tons and tons of homeowners decorate their backyards and porches with various kinds of potted plants. When winter rolls around, most people let these plants die and purchase new ones the following summer. Instead of doing that, try converting your outside plants into house plants for the winter. Not only will this help reduce the amount of cash you will have to shell out next summer, it will make the air inside your house more clean!
- Move around your furniture to make sure they aren’t blocking and vents. You definitely don’t want your expensive heat being wasted because your loveseat is blocking the vent. Also MAKE SURE you don’t forget to change the filter in your furnace (forgetting could possibly result in death).
- Always choose to rake the autumn leaves and resist using a leaf blower. Additionally, you can also save your raked leaves and turn them into a nutrient rich compost pile for future use.
