4 Tips for Childhood Fitness
As an adult, it’s easy to understand and recognize the importance of proper diet and exercise. Unfortunately, it’s much more difficult for a child to understand the consequences of letting their bodies become overweight and out of shape. This is why it is every parents’ responsibility to help make sure their children stay relatively fit and in shape. Here are tips to help keep your youngster in tip top shape!
- Get them involved – Try to find an activity that requires a decent amount of physical activity that your child actually likes doing. Some popular examples include dance, karate, or baseball. It’s important to remember it’s never in your child’s best interest to force them to do anything that they absolutely despise.
- Limit TV and computer time – Don’t let your kids fall into the trap of incessantly watching TV or playing video or computer games. Not only is this bad for your children’s health, it also will slow down their developing social skills. It’s important to remember to be a good role model for your children. If you yourself are constantly plopped in front of the TV it makes sense that your children will think it’s alright for them to do the same.
- Teach them what to eat – It’s a lot easier to raise your children on a diet of chicken nuggets and make and cheese. Unfortunately, these foods have very little nutritional value. Try experimenting with different types of food starting at a young age.
- Go out and play – Take time out of your schedule to go outside with your kids and do some physical activity! You don’t have to do anything crazy – a simple game of basketball or even a dog-walk around the neighborhood will suffice. Not only will this help keep your kids in shape, it will also provide you with some all-too-valuable bonding time.
